Social Meter

A home energy monitor to build an energy monitor with a social component. Not only do you see your own energy usage, but you see it in context of your existing social networks.

We built a system that took live data from Pachube feeds, ran carbon calculations through AMEE, aggregated people together using Twitter, and then provided an API for display devices to use. We built a web page display and a Processing display running on a Joggler touchscreen, which you might have sitting in your house. The display updates every few seconds, allowing realtime social comparisons.
