National Hack the Government Day 2011
March 26, 2011
We are very excited about our THIRD National Hack the Government Day, being held on the 26th March.
UPDATE: National Hack the Government, 2011 will be at the Guardian (we’ve pretty much nailed all tech problems!).
As ever this day is all about having free reign, doing whatever you fancy and showing it at the end to an audience of interested people, including gov types. We are beating the streets of Whitehall, proclaiming what is about to happen, and the reaction has been, as ever, excited and expectant
So, if you would like to code a better country, take government data and create prototypes of tools, services, applications or even crime map websites then come along on the 26th March 2011.
We will supply you with copious amounts of caffeine & sugar throughout the day and invite government to the show and tell (with beer and pizza as tradition demands).
If you would like to come to the show and tell at the end of the day you are very welcome, it will be held at 6pm. You can use the sign up form and register yourself for a “6pm Show & Tell” ticket.
Prizes will be awarded in a variety of categories made up on the day – but also specific prizes for the following:
1) Apps that save money or time or both for government/citizens/business
2) Best use of crime data (the prize will contain the number 300,000, but it won’t be pounds)
3) Best use of justice data (we’re working to arrange for previously unreleased data to be available on the day)

( There will be a remote outpost of #nhtg11 in Aberdeen, sign up and details here http://www.eventbrite.com/event/1356255597 )
Afterwards, Rewired State will be celebrating its second birthday so we will invite you all to the pub, and we will be even more celebratory than usual. We expect the most useful conversations between geeks and government people will take place here over beer after what is bound to be an exciting and revelatory hack day.

Thanks very much to our lovely sponsors:
“Every month in the magazine and every day online, Wired explores the ideas, innovations and people that are reshaping our world.
In a time of increasingly rapid change and unlimited access to information, Wired determines what to look for: it is the guide to what’s to come.
Wired is the only media brand whose mission is to map change — and then turn the points into a chart by which to navigate the future.
Our partnership with the 3rd Annual National Hack the Government Day is an extension of that mission.”
